Van Air recently worked with ESI Solutions, an engineering firm based in Oregon that specializes in building and managing renewable energy power plants. Specifically, ESI delivers end-to-end solutions for biogas utilization projects, including development, design, engineering, fabrication, construction, operations, maintenance and repair, and asset optimization.

ESI contacted us to help build them a skid system for an emergency shut down dryer. They were also experiencing excess moisture when first processing, and had long lead times for replacement parts for their current Glycol Dehydration systems (that could not have a shutdown, as a shutdown means money lost to the customer).

All said, ESI’s customer needed an immediate drying solution for if and when their current system would ever fail.

Why would a Glycol Dehydration system also need an emergency dryer system? Excess moisture occurs in the Biogas processing cycle when it is first processed. The extra moisture in the customer's current Glycol Dehydration System couldn’t handle the flow rate. The customer needed a secondary option in these beginning stages to help with the extra moisture so that it could be dehydrated properly.

Along with that, the COVID-19 pandemic caused worldwide outages and constant demand for renewable energy. Glycol dehydration systems require regularly-scheduled maintenance, and thus there became a need for a seamless solution to help dry gas to pipeline standards with little to no downtime.

Say hello to Van Air System’s PLD Deliquescent Desiccant Dryer Skid System. The PLD Deliquescent Dryer Skid System is a portable system that requires no electricity and very minimal maintenance. This dryer system allowed the customer to install it into their existing system with minimal adjustments.

The PLD Pipeline Dessicant Dryer Skid System can be used by the flip of a valve and would provide similar or better performance than the current system. (It also has a zero-emissions.) The customer also loved the fact that our system has no consumption charge when not in use.

This custom PLD Deliquescent Desiccant Dryer Skid package is going to Sedonia, Missouri where it is being used in a newly built renewable energy power plant. The skid system will be the first of many used as an emergency shut down dryer.

PLD Series, Pipeline Deliquescent Dryers can be used for many natural gas applications—Renewable Energy is just one of those applications, and is becoming more and more popular.

Our PLD pipeline dryers have no moving parts, require zero electricity and zero purge gas, can operate remotely in unmanned facilities, and produce zero emissions. Our dryers can react to reasonable flow rate fluctuations, pressure, and temperature without negatively affecting drying performance.

After the biogas passes through our deliquescent dryers, the moisture content is typically low enough to meet pipeline quality gas and/or be used for Fuel Gas, Sales Gas, Power Generation, and even sent to liquification plants.

The PLD Deliquescent Dryer is an ideal solution for RNG (Renewable Natural Gas) and all your Biogas upgrading projects.
