Abrasive blasting exposes a steel substrate to atmospheric humidity, and blasting contractors must contend with “flash rusting”. Flash rusting is surface corrosion that appears on steel when it’s not coated quickly enough. The presence of liquid water in compressed air exacerbates a contractor’s problems with flash rusting. Liquid water in the air line exits through the blast nozzle and falls as a fine mist onto the steel surface. This accelerates the formation of flash rust. The use of a compressed air dryer greatly reduces the rate of flash rust formation.
The Blast Pak is an all-in-one compressed air treatment solution that includes a cooler, dryer, and filter. The Blast Pak is designed for portability and simplicity of operation, ideal for the needs of mobile industrial painting contractors working on bridges, tanks, ships, pipelines and other pieces of steel infrastructure.
